Why did you become a EMT/Paramedic?

Only to have 20 days a month off. I don't care about fires or my patients. Lol j/k

Desperate Student becoming Firefighter/EMT and confused...

Like others said get your medic first, AS in fire science is pretty easy to get eventually if you do 1 class at a time. Of course, if for some reason you're really good at oral interviews and blow people out of their chairs. For big depts like LA city/county, OCFA... and so on all you need is...

    Acadian Ambulance

When I got my medic and couldn't find any jobs in CA. I applied online just for :censored::censored::censored::censored:s. Lady called me, interviewed me over the phone, and wanted me to fly to TX to get my paperwork/physicals done. A week later I got a FF/PM job that I applied for beforehand...

Hoping to transfer to AMR in San Diego...

I would stay away. I went to school in SD, and did ride alongs for medic school there, and know a lot of people that work for AMR-SD as medics; they all say it's just miserable and horrid.

    Balboa Ambulances

I would stay away from SD county BLS ambulances in general. R/M is only decent one because you can eventually get decent experiance on a 911 ambulance. If your goal is to become a paramedic, All the others, only so much stuff you can learn taking grand ma to dialysis or back to the hospital...

    Off-Duty CPR

I carry a cell phone wth me, it helps me call people that have all the equipment neccesary. If im not on duty, I'll be happy to call 911, find an AED if someone coded in a public place and one is available, and maybe do compressions without ventilating.

EMT Basic Max Pay in a Private Company

I made over 40k, my first year when I got my emt job at a 911 company, making almost minimum wage. 3 24's (72 hours a week) is lot of ot. Sure the guy at mcdonalds might make more an hour, but you have almost twice as many hours earning your money while chilling at a station and watching TV...

California local EMT-P scopes of practice July 2010

Just dont let Hall know you want to be a firefighter, if that is something that is in your plans. They look down on it, and want lifer medics.

How to address disabled family members.

If it's a 911 call I wouldn't do it, maybe in severely unusual circumstance like (dad is patient, minor in wheelchair and no other family/friends can take care of minor). If it's important enough for them to think they need to call 911 for their "emergency", I'm not gonna spend another 20...

Good place to buy EMS gear?

I don't know what kind of paramedic school you're going to. All the medic schools in Southern cali provide you a uniform that you pay for, just need to worry about boots and a belt.

    ER tech vs. EMT

Depends on what you want to do later on in life, if you want to be a paramedic, firefighter, or what not be an EMT on an ambulance. If you want to be an RN,MD, or any other proffesion that works in a hospital work as an ER tech. If you want to be an EMT forever, decide if you like being in a...

    Shady Companies In LA City

I worked for Medix in the OC, ems system sucks here. Also, the "nurses" that call from board and cares or SNFs always give the wrong information to get away with a BLS transport because every 911 call gets investigated. Had a "back pain" BLS urgent that ended up being a lady completely...

    MedicWest-Vegas

I'm testing there on aug 10th. According to the HR lady, if I pass the tests I'll be on the hiring list for Medicwest and AMR vegas because they are both owned by EMSC. If I get the job, I'll relocate because the cost of living is a lot cheaper there, and the salary is probably the same or...

    Shady Companies In LA City

Good IFT companys have 911 contracts with local cities to provide transport supervised by an ALS authority (usually an FD). The als first responder determine if the patient can be transported BLS or ALS. It's the crappy companies that are encouraged to never call for ALS by their employer...
