    Syncope

The NYC BLS protocols for AMS state: In order of relevance... * Administer oxygen * Request Advanced Life Support assistance, if appropriate. * If the patient is conscious, is able to swallow, and is able to drink without assistance, provide a glucose solution * Transport * Assess and...

    Syncope

BLS job 11:30PM you are dispatched to location for a middle aged man who fell. 40 y/o m pt found lying on sidewalk in front of a bodega states he remembers blacking out. Upon initial assessment he appears weak and tells you, even as he's lying there, that he's "OK", and then tells you he has...

    Flag Down

Ya, there is much confusion as to what exactly constitutes 'abandonment' in the ems field. Can it be possible for the tech to leave the pt in the ambulance for any amount of time and they still be properly monitored? Hospitals leave the pt's that are being discharged in their respective rooms...

    Flag Down

No... we both assisted at the MVA. But I dont believe its abandonment if pt gives consent.

    Flag Down

My partner and I were txp'ing a discharged pt from an er to his NH. En route we get flagged down by a police officer at a MVA. 2 cars, 4 pt's, 1 critical. The pt we were already txp'ing was stable and so we decided to stop and render aid until 911 got there. Driver (me) and tech (partner)...

    What should have happened?

No DNR. Dr I'm fact was assisting with ventilations but upon suggesting to txp pt to hospital he then asked us to step aside.

    What should have happened?

A unit in my company responds to an emergency at a NH. The dispatch info was 'sepsis'. The techs found the patient to be unconscious and in cardiac arrest. Upon notifying the NH staff of their need to begin CPR the Dr of the NH told them to stop CPR and stand aside and wait for 911 to get there...

Transfer of Care: RE Dialysis PTs

Oh, and if your company picks up a pt out of a NH in which your company does not have a contract, this doesn't mean your contract is with the dialysis ctr but rather with the pt's insurance. ;)

Transfer of Care: RE Dialysis PTs

 You'll notice that in most cases your contracts are with the Nursing Homes and their dialysis pt's are your companies responsibility for transport. Your contracts will not be with the dialysis center. Ambulance contracts will ensure some sort of BLS/ALS routine transport of pt's to these...

Transfer of Care: RE Dialysis PTs

Negative!! It is not the EMT's responsibility to weigh their pt's. It is a kindness. However, my company has one of our biggest contracts with a dialysis center located inside a hospital with our biggest contract. Therefore we have a supervisor that works inside the dialysis ctr to oversee our...

Transporting a SOB back to res.

Similarly I am looking for an opinion on a related matter. I had a morbidly obese F pt, became SOB with minimal exertion who does not have prescribed o2 at home. Upon being discharged my driver said I cannot give her o2 because we are not allowed to discontinue a treatment unless we do so at an...

    Suctioning

This probably sounds very elementary. During my EMT class we were taught how to suction, using the hard catheter, for patients aspirating their emesis. However, I recently began working as an EMT for a transport company and had a pt with a trach kit. His ventilations sounded as if he was...
