overdose deaths - what drug are you seeing in your area

Tons, and I mean TONS, of synthetic. Ours tends to not be just synthetic but is laced with PCP, industrial cleaners, gasoline, etc. And they like to fight. Also get a lot of straight PCP and crack overdoses. Get pulled over by PD, try to eat the cookie. meth, or whatever they're carrying. Had...

    King VS ET

Theoretically, the ET tube protects against aspiration of emesis or secretions into the lungs, whereas a King does not actually guarantee that. That is, however, in a perfect world.

    Intubation and Spontaneous Respirations

While I understand your thought process here, I have to disagree with it. Just because a patient is maintaining their own airway at present does not make it safer OR ideal. In fact, I would argue that anyone with significant potential for airway compromise is not ideal when maintaining their own...

    Reflex Bradycardia with Atropine

Does anyone have any explanation for the mechanism by which pushing atropine slowly causes reflex bradycardia?

    Intubation and Spontaneous Respirations

True story. It's also a perfect example of why it takes multiple confirmation methods. And why End Tidal is where it's at.

    Intubation and Spontaneous Respirations

It's possible to have positive color change on colormetrics even with an esophageal intubation. It's not common, but it can happen if they've recently consumed carbonation, CO2 is transported to stomach during bagging, etc. Just like you can get condensation in the tube from esophageal...

    Intubation and Spontaneous Respirations

My current system pushes advanced airway management for anyone with anticipated clinical need. A person who has a GCS of 5 is someone who has serious potential for losing control of their airway. RSI would be utilized in this case.

    Reflex Bradycardia with Atropine

This is research homework, and the instructions say that not all answers will be in our books. Therefore, we need to research, use the internet, doctors, preceptors, etc. to find the answers. Medicine is, after all, a field of research. If you don't know the answer, find it. Also, I don't have...

    Reflex Bradycardia with Atropine

I couldn't find this exact question anywhere, but if it's already answered somewhere please forgive me. Had this question on my paramedic homework: . Your patient is in sinus bradycardia at a rate of 36 beats per minute when you arrive. She relates that she has been feeling weak and dizzy...

    emt boots

This may sound ridiculous, but it works. Hit it a few times with a bat. Don't break the zipper, though. I find it helps soften the leather. Then coat it with mink oil. If you use the oil regularly, the whole boot softens up and holds up better.

Corpus Christi and TX in General

Licensure versus certification doesn't really mean much. As far as scope goes its exactly the same. If you're looking for strict 911, look at Cypress Creek, Montgomery County hospital district, Beaumont EMS, Harris County Emergency Corps.
