    The volunteer department I joined is having me go through Fire Academy. They said as of last month it's mandatory. What a great time to join. :wacko: I can't complain though, the more training the better. I told em to bring it on.

    In my state (Indiana) Advanced-Basic is between Basic and Intermediate. They can start IV's, do 4-leads, and a few other things Basics can't do.

    If you have any local volunteer department, talk with them and see if they'd be willing to train you as a driver. Mine does so long as you're current on your shots and trained in CPR/AED. I found it helpful to be on a real scene as an observer. Just remember to stay out of the way, pay...

    I honestly didn't know that there were differences (ALS vs BLS) until I started class. I was as ignorant as the rest. Education is the key to so many things. Fortunately as an EMT-B I can also do epi-pens for patients in anaphylaxis.
