I used JB learning, and I have mixed feelings. I felt the questions were good questions, however, I felt they were in no way similiar to the NREMT questions. Without going into specifics I will say this: the NREMT questions did not seem near as "concrete" as the JB questions. I did like the way...
Just another consideration: If you really want to be an RN then I recommend just going for your RN. It will save you considerable time, stress and expense. Additionally, EMS instructors put in a lot of time and effort to train paramedics. Some of those spots have long waiting lists. I would hate...
Chest pain yes, but not minor stuff. In fact. I always began my shifts by making a large "X" on the edge of the bench seat with 2 inch tape. My cot was reserved for sick people. I never gave any patient, not one, any grief over calling an ambulance no matter how minor the complaint (some not as...
It seems real easy to jump on this one, but truthfully there is not enough information. How big was the restaurant? How far away was the ambulance? After this person's status improved, was there a specific complaint by the patient? Are we worried about triggering or worsening an MI? Was the...
The question should be decided based on patient outcomes. There is entirely to much "YMMV" in EMS already. Two recent articles suggest that the ET tube is not what it used to be. I have seen entirely too much time wasted on "gettin' the tube" during arrests. I have seen this both in the hospital...
I know its a hike, but there should be some in and around Denver. Red Rocks has one, and I think CC Aurora has one as well, and as mentioned you could try DG.
I think EMTs/medics diagnose accurately quite frequently. However, some times we just address our symptoms and do follow up later. This is all part of the growth that happens during a career. I think some people get a bit caught in the cookie cutter vs critical thinking aspect of the job. There...
I am in the same boat. I will be doing the CBT this go around. It is very hard here in the Atlanta area to find CEUs/refresher courses. Last go I took the refresher. I still might. I am also looking for a good medic study guide in book form. Many of the suggestions here seem to be for EMT-B guides.
I agree the question has progressed from the OP, and it is interesting. This is how learning takes place. Not flaming anyone here, but I would have to respond by asking where is the science behind your response? Pediatric bradycardia is more likely to respond to proper O2 than any IV medication...
I have to disagree with the notion of requiring a degree for medics. I wholeheartedly appreciate that there are degree options out there for medics, but to require it could decrease some patient's access to ALS response in some areas (rural, etc). I like that idea that paramedic courses are...
I hear you. I have no problem with a 24 guage per se. I can give just about anything I need in terms of core 0 meds. Just no fluid challenges/blood products. Again, I let patient condition guide me.
I can do both measures without decreasing from either's effectiveness. What is most likely to help this patient will be the positive pressure ventilation which would happen during CPR. Applying the pads in anticipation of cardiac arrest does not detract from the intervention that might improve...
