    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

Hello everyone. I've been wandering about and posting here and there for the last week or so, and I figured it was about time to introduce myself. My names Pete. I'm 23y/o and have been an EMT for about 5 1/2 years. In NY for a volunteer Corp and in PA for a paid volunteer company (they started...

    Computerized run reports or paper???

I work in PA and NY. In PA we have a carbon copy paper 'trip sheet' that we fill out in the rig and leave a copy at the hospital, but when we get back to the station we do an electronic one on the computer. In NY all we do is a carbon copy PCR. I personally prefer to just write the PCR once and...

    Ashermann Chest Seal

At my job we carry them. I've never had to use one though. At my volly corp, we still just make them when we have to.

    Siren Malfunction

Actually, we had kicked it several times before the video and it helped drain some of the water out of it. But it was just perfect that when she kicked it, it changed the siren's tone.

    Siren Malfunction

Nope, I was the one taking the video. That was one of the other crew members. We ended up having four people on the crew. Its a paid volunteer company, so when they heard it go out as a cardiac arrest, the captain and one other went to the scene.

    Siren Malfunction

This particular rig is an old one. (I think it's a '96) The battery switch has to be on for the rig to run. It switches the entire power for the rig.

    Siren Malfunction

Oh yeah thats not all. Just after I drove through the water, (which I'm sure washed the top of the rig!) all the siren was doing was a static-y growl. (and it was a full on cardiac arrest call) I had to go through the rest of the traffic lights and pass cars with just the standard Ford horn...

    Using in car GPS

GPS is just about a necessity. We don't have it in any of our Volly rigs, but theres one in each of the rigs at work. You do have to know the area a bit though. The first time I drove at work ( 25 min from my house in another state) it got me to the scene but then the GPS just kind of "forgot"...

    Siren Malfunction

This is what happens when you drive through a flooded roadway with the siren on. It died at first, but then when we were leaving the hospital it started coming back to life...but we had it turned off. Most of the time we run lights without the siren, instead we were running sirens without...
