    Too Much Oxygen? hmmmm

I do not transport neonates that fit in a box, as far as what you asked me to do I have read up in it. I may be reading your post and another persons post wrong but I figured since you are a respiratory therapist you share some insight on this. From what I've read oxygen can contribute to the...

i have a question... Paramedic School Without Street Experience

Glad to hear that there are still some states that require experience before being considered for a medic class. I know there are very few folks who could go all the way through with little to no experience. Personally I think that you need to have a couple years under your belt before...

    Indiana EMS

By chance you know which ones?

    Indiana EMS

That's the bit of info I have; I've heard there's some counties that are close to Ripley Co. that do not have any ALS what so ever. I'm trying to get some specifics but this will probably be a rather huge challenge. Thanks for your input!

Students, what should we do with them?

I think everyone has made some pretty valid points; this field isn't for everyone and some quickly learn that. Looking from the student aspect I think that part of it falls on whatever training institution they went through. Are they an "EMT" mill and look and quantity and not quality? Is there...

    Indiana EMS

This may be a rather strange question for all the Hoosier EMS folks but here goes. Do you live/work in a county that does not have paramedic service? I was somewhat shocked to hear that some counties do not have any form of ALS (AEMT, EMT-I, EMT-P). I'm not trying to argue but just curious what...

    Application

Don't worry I'm sure everyone on here has had their share of sleepless nights. As far as the supervisor goes, put the one for the station you were at the most would work. I think the generic number is alright but if they have a business number that would probably be your best bet.

    Certificate vs Associates vs Bachelors

Excellent point on starting up a service usafmedic45 has; starting a service is expensive and you need to have some working capitol and expect to not make any money for a few years or just break even. If that's your dream go for it!

    Certificate vs Associates vs Bachelors

Are you looking at the traditional college route or online? There are other BS degrees that you can get that are related to what we do in the field. I've put a couple links below, I hope they help. http://ditchdoctorgabe.blogspot.com/2009/12/bs-degrees-for-paramedics.html...

Vincennes Fire Rescue vs Ambulance 4-3-11

Wow this is the second incident involving an ambulance from southern Indiana. Recently an ambulance was stolen and involved in a police chase which stretched across three counties. Makes you wonder what's going on in that part of the state....

    Too Much Oxygen? hmmmm

True but dare I say common sense judgment is needed. I don't see a huge issue for a short term transport and the pt. receives high flow oxygen. Granted we are aiming at keeping sats 94% or above and the long term issues is that you have to deal with free oxygen radicals. Plus in the neonates you...

    ems pants

I have to agree 5.11 are great and really hold up. I believe there's a cotton/poly blend and it holds up and doesn't fade as bad as pure cotton.

Maintaining knowledge/skills with a low run volume

This field can be great but it can be the downfall of relationships. You have received some pretty good feedback; I would honestly look at another department that has a higher volume that will fit into your schedule. As far as books go looking over what you already have is good but if your...

Very random question about IO in pre-term and newborn infants.

I agree with the UVC is a great route but not to knock anyone how often would one truly perform this procedure. The flight service I work with has a peds/neo transport team and they do this procedure fairly frequently. The other crew members are trained to do it but other than simulations we...

    Application

I have to agree with HotelCo, just be honest and "will discuss." If you have a gap showing in your employment that brings up a red flag and if during an interview one finds out that it was omitted it will make you look bad. Things happen to the best of us so try not to sweat the small stuff.
