    Atlanta's 911 Provider

If you are talking about Grady they start there medics out at 20/hr. I think its about 14/hr for emt's, not sure on that though i only worked there as a medic. They also pay night and weekend differentials. Its a system status system and you will run a lot of calls (anywhere from 8-14 a night...

is getting a mic worth it?

Yup. Some of the older rigs have mobiles anthem but they haven't been reprogrammed since we changed frequencies a year ago. The new rigs didnt even come with them

is getting a mic worth it?

I use mine a lll the time. Granted though I work in for a system status agency and we spend all our time in the trucks. It's a lot easier to just talk into the mic on my chest then try pulling the radio out of it's harness on my belt while sitting up front in the cab

    Blood Pressure: ALS v. BLS

I agree with Linus and the others as far as the reasoning behind the 12 lead not being necessary. The other factor to "just in case" things like running a 12 in this situatio that most providers fail to take into account is cost to the pt. I know here the patient will be charged for the 12...

cardiac arrest tips and tricks you have learned along the way...?

This is my biggest pet peeve. I normally try and avoid the situation all together by instructing the family to leave the hospital a few minutes before we do. I'll have my partner pull the ambulance over if the families following us emergency (thinking that its okay because there 4 way...

    When to Neb.

The company I work for seems to have the same view I personally start the neb for an asthma pt before even moving them to the stretcher. But ive had my partner take off with the d50 and run out to the ambulance cause "we treat in route cause the medical director doesn't like crews getting...

ICE - In Case of Emergency

I may not use ICE but its not uncommon for me to call a pts family from their cell phone. Ive never done it on a trauma cause like everyones said if they were in an accident that was bad enough for them not to be able to talk I'm going to be busy with other things. But it's been a big...

    Pain Control

The last orders I got were for 4 of morphine on a 80 kg male with a shoulder injury after being hit on a bike by a car, no other injuries, with a good bp. Pt stated it felt dislocated, no obvious deformity, but noticible muscle spasm. I was denied any benzo. But, due to all the psych pts we...

    Pain Control

man, my system sucks as far as pain management goes. We have to call for orders for ANY pain management. We carry morphine and toradol, but toradols only intended to be used for kidney stones (at 15 mg with online orders). Cardioversion is a standing order, however any sedation to go along with...

Policies Regarding Bed Delays and Radio Reports

Hospital diversions usually lead to hilarity for me. The system I work in does hospital diversions through a website, which lists the statuses of each hospital, what type of diversion they are on, and how long they will be diverting. When we go enroute to the hospital, dispatch gives us a heads...

    Atlanta/Grady Hospital

Yeah you need to call Malia. Shes the one that handles hiring in the EMS department, her number is posted on here. i would do that before you fill out anymore applications. Grady just went through a hiring process so it may be a little bit before they hire again, but I bet it will still be...

EMT-I jobs in and around Atlanta, GA?

Most of the time it seems that people who went straight through tend to have a more difficult time adjusting to the street. Knowledge wise I think its fine, its the practical hands on aspect of scene management or even stretcher operation of paramedics that haven't worked on a 911 truck that...

EMT-I jobs in and around Atlanta, GA?

Have you tried getting a tech gig in one the ERs? I know AMC hires EMTs and so do some of the children's hospitals. Sadly, you would have more luck if you upgraded and got your P. Unfortunately its a lot easier to go from zero to hero around here than actually get a job as an EMT first
