    part time jobs...

After retiring from the FD part time EMS is my only job. I have two, both County 911. As said make sure you don't double book, and leave enough time to get from one to the other. People will hang over a couple of times but it gets old real fast. If I work a 20x8 one night I usually don't book...

Best North Carolina EMS system to work for??

Cabarrus County NC. Great Medical Director and very progressive protocols. Bordering on a little too busy for the size of the agency and is going to 12 hours shifts to address burnout. Very good equipment.

Would a petrolatum gauze be good for an open chest wound?

This site has very good training resources. My former Dept. uses them for our Tac and Active Shooter bags. Anything will work even a package wrapper if that is all you have. The defib pads stick to anything and Ashermann's won't stick to anything. I've heard of Medics using Breachers Tape with...

    First Responder - Handoff Reports

It they are stable, name, age, any meds they are on already written down if possible. Fist set of good vitals but they are going to be done again so it's not imperative. If you did anything, when? Chest pain 4 aspirin, time?,...ect. If the scene is a residence or business that will make getting...

    Mecklenburg County EMS

Does Medic have P/T? The agency's I currently work for limit you to 1000 hours a year, and that's only if you can get the shifts. Good places to work but I just had four days without a shift and nothing to be had.

    Annual Physical Agility Tests

One agency I work for does, the other is starting to implement one. It is mainly physical agility, very little real EMS scope skills.. You have to pass it every year. The most demanding part is pulling a 185 lb. rescue dummy out of a car and dragging it 50 feet. The rest is all every day...

Poor sense of direction and EMS

I was a tracker in the military, reading a map is not the problem. The areas we operate in are expanding so fast with multiple subs that can cover more than a few square miles each with dozens of new streets, the map books can't be updated fast enough. Even the CAD only give a map grid with no...

Poor sense of direction and EMS

Never once has that happened, I keep it updated. I guess I'm just lucky.

Poor sense of direction and EMS

I have my Garmin. Just load the address and zip and it will do the rest. All the Hospitals are loaded as part of the program once you ID the State. If you have a smart phone(I don't) they have an app.

    Bougie storage

We keep it taped to the wall by the radio. There is one in the air way bag too, just bent in half not rolled.

    BLS Medical Director Interaction

He often stops by various stations just to talk and provide some insight on things. He is an excellent teacher. He makes up scenarios and asks what you would do to handle this patient. Of course they are mostly ALS type interventions but not always. Sometimes he seeing if you know when to keep...
