    First day tomorrow!

They're not gonna have a third person on board with you just for a while? Some companies have an extra Basic or Medic when someone new hops on the truck, just for a couple of weeks or so... But anyways, good luck!

    Scope of Practice(Combi Tubes)?

I've heard that Louisiana does allow EMT-B's to drop a Combitube, but the local protocol for the EMS company that I'm about to start working for doesn't allow it. Just for that company...

A newcomer in every sense of the word.

I think it would be a great idea to do a ride-along before starting an EMT class. It would give you a great general idea of what you're gonna be getting into before you actually do. There was a girl in my class that actually dropped out right after she did her clinicals because she couldn't...

    Starting EMT-B in January and...

Personally, I wouldn't take any other classes while I'm enrolled in the Basic course. But that's just because ours was so accelerated, and I wanted to focus on nothing BUT what I was doing pertaining to my EMS course. I don't know if the course is different in some areas, but ours was only 3...

    EMTs starting IV

I'm not trying to piss in anyone's cereal, but I think it's ridiculous how when a Basic tries to make a simple comment on here just trying to suggest something, a Paramedic just has to come up with the cockiest remark to come back with. Jesus Christ. Let people talk, and don't think just because...

    100% Directionless Thread

My best bud posted an ad on Craigslist about me, saying I was a gay Egyptian looking for some lovin'. He even stole pictures of me from my Facebook page and posted them in the ad so people can see what I look like. I'm going through a divorce with my wife, so I guess he thought it would make me...

    EMT-B says "I'm a medic"

We're all 'medics'... It's a label given to anyone working in the EMS field.

Starting Basic class in 3 wks; have a few questions

That's how it is where I'm at. I'm in Louisiana, and to begin practicing over here you have to be state AND nationally certified.

Starting Basic class in 3 wks; have a few questions

Good luck to you! The class is fun. Dedicate yourself. Become religious with your skills so that you can be confident when National Registry comes around. :)

    Previous license suspension

Damn. If your situation happened in 2003, I don't see why it would be such a big issue. I recently had an interview with my local medic service, and they said there would be an issue if we had a DWI within the past 2 years. I had one in May of 2005, and the recruiter said it didn't even show up...

    Starting Ride Alongs soon...Pretty Nervous

I wish we would have gotten to do more ride-alongs. Our class only did one 12 hour clinical. But I have to admit I had fun. I was on one of the busiest units in our area. We had a total of 11 calls. I got to see a lot, and get a real taste of what I'm about to start doing for a living. I...

    EMT-B Scenarios?

Check out EMT Achieve. You can find it online, and the subscription is good for a year. It's 20 or 30 bucks, but everyone in my class said it helped them out a lot. It gives you practice tests and they're full of scenarios. I've never used it, but I hear it's really worth it.

    Four-Loko

I've never tried it yet. But I know some people who have, and they say just one is enough. Now for the dumbasses who try to be hard and drink 3 or 4 at a time, that's just asking for trouble.
