Years down the road, how do you continue to love this profession?

I no longer work on the road. I worked for an extremely busy inner city EMS system. We worked 12 hour shifts, that usually turned into 14-16 hour shifts. Usually you would be mandated to work another 12. In 12 hours we would run anywhere between 12-15 calls a day. Higher ups did not care about...

Why did you choose to become an EMT/Paramedic ?

The terrible pay, terrible shifts, getting heldover every shift, crappy partners, and worthless higher ups.

    Help with NREMT-P

I used emtprep and it worked just fine. I have also heard that emt achieve is pretty good. Since registry is now taken on a computer, I would recommend online study versions rather that a book. -Good luck

Only 1 ER and 1 ride along shift?

For Basic in Ohio we needed 4 hrs in the adult ER, 4 in the peds ER, and 8 hrs of ride time. It varied with different schools in the area though.

How long were you an EMT-B before Paramedic?

I was an EMT for 7 years before I became a paramedic. I would have done medic school sooner, but I couldnt afford tuition. Im glad I waited, the experience helped out alot during school and clinical time.

Do you think supervisors should have to do Truck Time

At my former job, the supervisors did not like getting called out. Ex. when checking our drug boxes before heading out and we came across expired meds we would call dispatch to tell them we have to resupply our drug box. However if a call came in we would have to go out and do the transport. We...

    Marine Looking for advice

EMT-Basic classes are around 3-4 months long depending on where you go. You will learn basic skills : spinal immobilization, airway/ventilation techniques, bandaging and splinting, they also teach a handful of drugs that EMT-Basics are allowed to assist with during administration. You will also...

Juggling Paramedic School and work as an EMT

I am currently working as an EMT through medic school. I started off working full time during the beginning but switched to part time once clinicals started. I manage to work 20-30 hours a week. Money is tight but studying and earning that card is my priority right now. good luck
