Should I use my monitor pads or the aed ones?

so I arrive on scene and there is already an aed in use with pads on. Either bls unit or bystanders or whatever. I'm an ALS unit - do I take off the aed pads and put on the ones that connect to my monitor? Or do I just put them next to the aed pads? Thank you!
