It might be but unless you have the appropriate equipments, manpower etc in your rig to do TPA's or a Cardiac Cath or whatever then we as EMS or whatever you wanna call yourself, our job is to transport the patient ASAP.
I'd say 8 out 10 calls most EMS departments do are BS calls & most people in EMS know that. Wether Private or FD or whatever, we all go to the ER where the patients can be fixed, all have the same certifications & half the time the patients don't care if we're private FD or whatever as long as...
OP here.
So me & my girlfriend were watching TV last night & there was a commercial about a discount for First Responders & I said "Hey I'm a First Responder!" & The look on her face was kinda like "are you high? Are you serious? No you are not." & She said "you don't do emergencies right?" It's...
"95% ofthe time you're basically defrauding medicarejusttaking stable patients from point A to pointB."
This. Morally & ethically I have a hard time accepting this but this job pays my rent & groceries.
Sometimes I see it this way..
Burger King employee does BK stuff.
Target employee does...
The general consensus here seems to be that Private EMS really isn't EMS.
Then Medics & EMTs who work for them like I do aren't really professional healthcare workers?
Now Police do police things.
Firefighters fight fires & do rescue 911.
Private ambulances does transport & discharges & our...
Hey everyone OP here.
So I've been working more & more ALS now so it's not as mundane as just BLS IFT, I sometimes get to see some pretty cool medical calls & what not but recently I had a conversation with my partner who's been a paramedic since 86' (combat medic, lpn, flight medic...
I work for an ambulance service that primarily does transport. from dialysis to discharge to city to city, State to state transport & some "911" from nursing home, special hospitals, people having emergencies wanting to go to their preferred hospital,
Whenever we take somebody to the ER we get...
So were a private ambulance& we were posted outside a freestanding ER & the RRT came up to us & told us we have a STEMI, so we rolled in & seen a nurse talking to our dispatch before we even got the page.
Went in the room & seen the pt, the nurses working on the pt, family, my medic got the...
Hello everyone.
I've been working as an EMT for a private ambulance company for about 6 months now. Everybody who's worked private ambulance knows the deal or what it's all about (dialysis, discharge, ift, some "911" from a snf, 911 assist, taxi, etc.) Now I am somewhat torn between "I didn't go...
Hey guys. Would it be a good idea to go to EKG/Phlebotomy school? Or just go straight to medic school? I'm currently an EMT.
I plan on going to medic school eventually but I'm in no rush cause I know medic school is hard. So I'm thinking if I take that class I could start working at a hospital...
So we were doing a 4hr 15mins IFT & maybe about 3hr 45mins in we took a turn to a county road that ran for like 20 something miles, I was driving 60mph the whole time then there was a flashing light indicating there was a stop light ahead of us, the coast was clear in all directions & suddenly...
Seems like $2 more isn't worth all the schooling & responsibilities for an IFT Medic.
One night me & a medic, who happens to be a firefighter too & works part time for the private ambulance company I work for were on standby at a football game & one of the security people came to us & said "are...
