Hi everyone!

I will use this topic to introduce myself and ask you a big help.

I'm 19 yo, I'm Portuguese EMT-B that always loved prehospital emergency area. Lately, due to the severe economic crisis in Portugal, I've been thinking about moving to the U.S. (I know, first I must improve my english lol:unsure::cool::p). I know the portuguese EMT carreer is not recognized in the U.S. without I apply and pass the NREMT successfully.
How can I apply to an program for EMT-B? Where can I do it? In a hospital? a fire station? Ambulance services? How much expensive it is? I have to have the U.S. driving license? I can easily find jobs after finish my EMT program?
I dont have any preference about state/county or city.

I am truly thankful for future answers.
:)

Unless you are a US citizen or hold a permanent resident card you have no chance.

Paramedic (ALS/international Intensive Care Paramedic) in the US is unskilled third preference for an E visa meaning you will not get one based solely on being a Paramedic regardless of sponsorship by a potential employer

Sorry mate

It is possible, but it is very expensive (thousands of Euros) and once you get the qualification what are you going to do with it?

You can't work in the US (there is no way you will get a work visa as a Paramedic as it is unskilled third preference for an E visa) so what are you going to do, go back to Portugal?

And do you know how can I get the permanent resident card?

Yes. There are several reports online of UK Paramedics who have spent tens of thousands of pounds on the process and been turned down.

The crux of the issue is this - the employer must petition the US Department of Labour for certification that there are no certified US nationals able to do the job they want you for. That is never going to happen.

Some other threads on this topic exist on here, where is Scot33 when you need him? :D
