A new mental health issue, generally consisting of the patient (an EMS provider) acting out urges to exhibit and practice in excess of that rationally or legally allowed given the circumstances. Similar to Munchhausen's in categorization:

WS (Whacker's Syndrome) Level I = tricking your ride with lights, wearing a stethoscope around your neck and a radio o your basketweave belt going into a single's bar, getting a Star of Life tattoo on your forearm.

WS II= Actually having a job in EMS, but doing procedures and challenges and such "just in case" such as TKO NS IV's for two-block transports, sling and swath with SAM splint for a broken finger, ete.

Any others for Level II, or have you a Level III to relate? Driving maybe?

* DSM
I'm assuming you are referring to the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders?

DSM, that's the one, yeah yeah

Light reading for the weekends.

I go to a school that offers a fire science major. It's full of whackers and buffs...

Hey now, I resemble that remark. If they get my happy *** out of bed at 3am for a stubbed toe and refuse to drive with their spouse to a hospital, it could be across the street, and theyll be getting a line, just because practice makes perfect and im grumpy.

I'd think BLSing it would get you back in bed quicker.

Plus doing treatments just because the patient annoyed you is bad medicine.

Just me being half assed funny after working all day, Its our standard to start a TKO drip on most patients, I dont do it every time, but most of our ER's prefer that we have a line going if we can get one, saves them time later.

I saw a whacker first aid video the other day.

Had basic first aiders doing head to toe exam with palpation of anterior iliac crests, then carefully slip hand under the small of the back for the back exam...for a first aider? "Does THIS.." ("OWWWWW!)..(" hurt? One to ten....").
