Their hard work and dedication help to build a foundation for our EMS system that ultimately sets a high standard of service for our community.

When making the selection for Field Training Officer (FTO), we examine the candidate’s skills, knowledge and behavior. In doing so, we attempt to take a ‘whole person’ approach to the testing and evaluation process. No singular criterion is used when making the decision. The overall choice will be based upon, but not limited to, the items listed below.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Field training officers have a dual responsibility of providing solo Paramedic service on their assigned areas, as well as conducting training and evaluations for new and existing employees.
  • Attend the FTO training course (at next available offering)
  • Attend the Supervisor training course (if applicable)
  • Attend regularly scheduled FTO meetings
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate provisional paramedics and EMTs (including Interagency representatives)
  • Assist with Pre-employment Testing and Orientation
  • Participate in didactic and field training sessions (including CEU courses)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of remedial training programs
  • Fill Supervisor role as needed (upon completion of Supervisor training course)
  • Be motivated to teach, to facilitate learning and to ensure their provisional acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful employee
  • Serve as a mentor, role model and educational resource for fellow employees
Qualifications & Requirements

  • Completion of online application and testing process
  • Nationally Registered Paramedic with (7) or more years’ experience.
  • All required licenses, certifications, and continuing education be valid and current for the state of PA
  • 80% of template shifts are required to be daylight shifts to accommodate field training
  • Advanced level training / certifications (NIMS / ICS, CCEMTP, PALS, PEPP, PHTLS, etc)
Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Additional experience in education and training and the evaluation of adults
  • Proficiency in communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in program development
  • One written (or email) recommendation from a licensed ER physician.
Maintenance Requirements

  • All required licenses, certifications, and current education maintained in good standing, valid, and current.
  • Any Operational disciplinary actions during tenure as an FTO will be subject to review by the Education Manager and may result in suspension or revocation of FTO status.
  • Any disciplinary action imposed to an FTO by the Education Manager for failure to perform duties as an FTO or for behavior unbecoming of an FTO may result in suspension or revocation of FTO status.
  • Successful completion of company-sponsored Field Training Officer training in areas pertinent to fulfilling job duties.
  • Documented 80% or better attendance at FTO meetings.
  • Field orientation and evaluation training of new employees in accordance with company policies.

Salary: $52,000.00 to $60,000.00 /year
