I am looking for an article that talked about the benefits of transporting pediatric patients via helicopter. The article cited a study that suggested that in some identifiable cases, that faster air transport only increased survival rates by a very small number, and then tossed around the idea of whether or not the cost to the tax payers is worth the small increase.

Does anybody recall this article and/or have a link?

Thanks for the info.

As I've said before, a certain ground/air service here in DFW requires any patient with a greater than 15 minute ground transport to fly.

Delving further into the issue, I came across this website:

Interesting read. Apparently the cutoff distance where air is faster than ground is about 40 miles or so from scene to trauma center, assuming an average of 55 mph.

Yes, there are variables, i.e. extrication, time of day, traffic, but this seems to be a pretty good average.
