The Car Window When Necessary?

Always carry a window punch if you are going to work wrecks. They are cheap and easy to carry. I keep them in the pockets of everything I might have on when on scene of a MVC.

ive found that the vast majority of the time, at least one of the doors/windows are open.

ive lost count of the number of mva's ive done. i can count on one hand how many times ive had to pop a window.

I have used a rock lying on the side of the road on more than one occasion.

Same here. About the only time we pop a window now days is if we're going to do a roof removal during extrication. Our FF's handle that, and they use the window punches that we've attached to the windshield saw.

Just a matter of interest.
What do you do with a car that is older and has different glass?
We had a scenario night with the FD, and had just that problem with
the vehicle used.

Cheers Enjoynz

I've broken glass BEFORE entering a car, if I know the FD is going to take the roof... I'd rather sit on broken glass than have it down the back of my neck. This has been infrequent.

When I do... I have a centerpunch/seat belt cutter on my keychain.

Out of the literally thousands of MVA's I have worked, I only can remember having to break one car window (in which you go to a corner; the weakest point) you did not place other tools appropriate (Halligan, window punch, etc.). Again, another television drama that very rarely occurs.

Ditto. Usually you can gain access with no problems.

i've never had to break glass, but i'd usually use my knife with my heavy duty gloves or a halligan tool.

When I graduated 6+ years ago I bought a window punch. I've never used it. I find the doors and windows open normally or the car driver anticipated the problem and opened doors and windows or self extracted for me prior to my arrival.

I find the FD,(rescue), great at modifing doors and sunroofs as required. ;)
