Just wondering how many people have dealt with an ALTE? I encountered one yesterday while on a paramedic ride along for class.
1 yr. old male. 10 minutes after eating, pt. went limp, apneic, became cyanotic. Father began rescue breathing for pt and called 911. Arrived on scene, father...
Was doing some downtime forum reading and saw this from a rhythm thread.
Just curious if anyone had any thoughts or literature so that I could read up on this debate. (Hoping no one is just going to refer me to google. :P)
Any info would be appreciated...just reading up on SVT (and we...
Just wanted to drop in and say hey....I finally have a few seconds free. In the third week of the first semester of our year long paramedic program here in SC.

My prayers are with the girl, her family/friends, and the Charleston Co. crew.

This happened about two miles from campus.

Had an internship on Friday that turned out my first trauma. We got dispatched for an MVA rollover with 2 ejected. Arrive on scene, one pt. prone in the roadway and another pt. in the ditch. Truck is demolished. Medic gets out of the truck and says, "Take the one in the ditch."
After five...
Had an internship yesterday. Showed up an hour and a half early to help check off the truck and go over some things I wasn't 100% on. Toned out for first patient, and the preceptor throws me into the mix. B)
First three patients that required IV access, I successfully started the IV's on...
Hopefully I will get my first stick tomorrow. It's supposed to be awful weather here in SC with 60+mph winds, so I imagine my luck there will be some outdoor activities that I will be venturing into tomorrow.
I've been going over my airways, IV's, meds, as well as my basics in...
Just curious if anyone knows off hand whether CA has direct reciprocity with the NREMT? Or would I have to test for the CA-Paramedic?
And how about VA?
Reason I ask is that I am going through paramedic school here in SC, but I am possibly going to be relocating to either VA or CA within a...
It was a challenging exam. Cut off at 71 questions. While I feel confident in my knowledge of the topic....I walked out of that exam second guessing a few of my answers.
There seemed to be a lot of questions that left me between two "correct" answers...and I just trusted my gut in...
:blush::blush:
I am really happy. I tested with a few other class members from my program today. I nailed my intubation, traction splint, and made it through my pt. assessment (a combative behavioral that totally threw me off my game.....but I rolled with it and felt very confident when I...
Just saw this on one of the automotive enthusiast boards I am on. It doesn't pertain to EMS, but I just felt that it should be passed on here.
He was a big car fanatic whose life was taken from him in a tragic end to a car chase.
RIP Alex...
I just got my final exam grade back (95--WHOHOOO) so I passed the course with flying colors.
Now I have to prepare for the NREMT-B exam. Skills are on 12-19.

Reviewing for my lecture practicals tomorrow....so I may have a few more questions as the night progresses.
1) In the NREMT skill sheet for Traction Splinting, the last two steps are "Verbalizes securing the torso to the long board to immobilize the hip" and "Verbalizes securing the splint to...
Well on Wednesday I sat as a patient for the NREMT-B exam. I must say that it was probably the best thing I could have done to prepare myself for my own exam (12/19). Here are some things I noticed and didn't notice...
The first station I sat at was a random basic skills station (LSB and...
The testing center asked our class for volunteers to become pts. for the day next week. I jumped at the oppurtunity...anything I can do to help calm my nerves somewhat.
And who knows...I might see what kind of things are often forgotten/which automatic fails are most common/etc.

During my second internship on Friday, we had a relatively slow day. Three calls until about a half hour before I was scheduled to get off shift. Call goes out for an Alpha Response for Psych. - Threatening Suicide. Police on scene. We respond to the location to find two officers already...
I am writing patient reports from my first internship. I've got the SO pretty good...and the P...but as far as the A goes, I am stuck.:P:P:P
What exactly are you supposed to document/note in the Assessment portion of your paperwork. I've read various things about noting obvious injuries...
Have my first ride tomorrow from 10-10.
I am very anxious....but ready to actually get to practice some of the things I've gotten from the text.
Wish me luck...
