After my last union job, if I never see another again it will be too soon.
No way to get rid of dregs, I couldn't even get a letter of recommendation on company letterhead because the union demanded that "satisfactory or unsatisfactory" were the only 2 ways to describe employees.
It is not that I am against improvisation, I have done well more than my fair share of it. I will let Mycrofft speak for himself, but we are not the new guys to this.
My problem comes in when improvisation is taught as a series of skills to be performed and try to disguise it as "education"...
That is what I was thinking.
About 5 years ago I actually saw an account of a group of 4 climbers from Japan (I forget where in the world they were climbing) where one broke her leg and they took turns carrying her back to civilization over a period of 2 days without making camp. They claimed...
I am not suggesting you have a choice or that you shouldn't follow your protocols, but in the context of wilderness medicine, using what you described:
2 1000cc bags of NACL
1 short roll of duct tape
3 triangular bandages
How do you move them or think this is...
That depends on where you are, what you have, and what you need to do.
It is quite a large topic, but I would propose the first part of the decision is "can you do anything for this person at all?"
You are then going to have to determine if you can be rescued, have to travel some...
No, I think that based on my experience and speaking with people who are more active in providing medical aid in austere conditions that a lot of what is taught is generally BS.
Some of the advocates claim the purpose of teaching these interventions is to teach critical thinking skills...
Like I said my friend, up in the northeast we are not sure that is really part of Ohio. :)
It has an entirely different culture and you don't even speak the same language.
Most of you don't even know the difference between pop and a soda. :)
Trauma is not an ALS call.
There are actually studies showing improved outcomes when rapidly transported by BLS compared to ALS.
There are many reasons a hospital may call a trauma alert, they get paid extra for them which may play a role in liberal criteria for such.
I just rounded to double for the medics.
I guess I am fired :)
Being from the northeast part (real Ohio, not West VA annex :) ) everyone is a medic or in medic school. I totally forgot there are any EMTbs in the state.
