    Dual Sequential Defibriliation

I don’t know that there will ever be enough data to truly evaluate the efficacy of DSD.. Persistent ventricular rhythms are so few and far between..

    Dual Sequential Defibriliation

it depends entirely on the protocol, but you can do them 1 right after the other or at the same time.

When a person is ejected through a windshield....

Listen man, I'm sorry about your loss, I really am. You have your answer. Ejection generally requires significant energy and creates severe injuries that are generally not compatible with life. Trying to delve into how many different times we've seen it really accomplishes nothing.

When a person is ejected through a windshield....

It's the pace of the conversation that's off-putting.. 'how do people do who are ejected' 'bad' 'well how many have you seen' 'a few' 'thats not very many, anyone else?' - it's also the issue of forcing us to share accounts of days that weren't super fun for us.. Think about this from a...

I had mine custom made by a local firefighter, brown instead of black, I absolutely love it.

Paramedics Found Guilty in Last Trial in Elijah McClain Death

As they should. We have a real job with responsibilities and real outcomes.

Tidbit from my world. I work for a fire department with ALS transport and a good protocol. We have two different third service EMS agencies that we regularly run mutual aid with, and I have been less than impressed with both. I listened to one of their medics diagnose a blatantly paced rhythm...

Three year contracts are common place in the hospital. I signed a paper that I’d have my BSN within 3 years or be fired..

    Accepted to RN bridge!

And these programs demonstrate where BSN > ADN, at least when comparing new grads. The sad thing is, the nursing educator cult insists that BSN is better at all costs so we’re left with these RN to BSN programs that are complete trash even when taking them at respected universities.

    Accepted to RN bridge!

I’d be in favor of more variety in nursing clinical. I know the 4 year programs do different rotations, but my 2 year program had nursing home rotation in the beginning, then med surg 1, psych, ob, L&D, then med surg 2, which was really just med surg 1 but this time you get TWO patients.. it...

    Accepted to RN bridge!

I was bored this morning and decided to read back through this thread, which was a small snapshot journal of that 2 year chapter of my life. I'm currently coming up on 2 years part time in the ED, I also switched fire departments into a new role which changed my outlook there. I'm currently...

Why can't Paramedics act off duty?

I’m not trying to be rude, but what you said is literally the meat of the Good Samaritan law..

Why can't Paramedics act off duty?

I used to think it'd be super cool to have a take-home car. Now I see the ugly side of that where I'm driving a billboard and would feel compelled to stop for every little thing. If I end up in an admin position with a take-home, I'm going to try to get one that is unmarked with hidden lights.

What is the best way to place ecg leads without actually palpating the intercostal spaces? No one seems to ever do that.

If we're being perfectly honest? Look to where you'd put the heel of your hand for chest compressions, slightly up from that and on either side of the sternum is v1/v2, v4 goes 1-2" below the left nipple, v6 goes mid-axillary in line with v4, v3 goes in between v2/v4, v5 goes between v4/v6.

Ugh.. I've been out of hems game for a long time, is there any good reason to fly that low on a positioning flight?

Why can't Paramedics act off duty?

I've been in this career a long time. I can't think of a single time off duty when I thought "damn I wish I could needle decompress this dude". I've only ever stopped at 1 crash, it was a rollover on the freeway and no one was there.. I was calling 911 while walking over and realized I didn't...

    Thinking about being a Paramedic

The direct entry MSN programs that I’m aware of will take your bachelors from another field and accept you into the program, but you’ll be earning a BSN as a part of the program. Nursing education machine baby.. The fact that I MUST take these 6 week classes on how to write papers for a year...

Being older definitely contributes because you have time management skills and drive that you’ve developed over the course of your life. I can’t speak to the difficulty of college in the old days, as my first college class was 10 years into my career in 2008, but other than my associates in...
