Good morning, I just got hired with a flight company and have 18 months to get this certification. I have self study for 3 weeks now using the ACE online course as well as his book. I also have been reading back to basics and doing flightbridge ed practice test.

I have been getting a majority of the questions with ACE an back to basic questions right. Is there anything else I can do to prepare me ? What can I expect ? I’m beyond nervous.

Thanks.

There are a handful of review courses that are pretty good (the Pittman course, back to basics, IA MED).

I am a ground paramedic with about 2 1/2 years of full time work in a system that is fairly limited. I did a lot of self study and attended a IA MED course that was local to me. I was able to pass the test first try. The test was a doozy but not impossible

I’ve been a medic for 6 years now with 2 being in a 911 system.

What did your exam focus a lot on ? And I’d thought about a face to face class but the ACE course seems like one and I’m understanding the material for the most part

The FP-C handbook states exactly how many questions from each topic you will get on your test so there was no main focus. There was X amount on cardiac, X amount of aircraft operations, X amount of respiratory, etc.

Thanks I’ll look into that.

Everything is fair game. If you're background is primarily 911 I would not spend much time on trauma and disease process type questions, and dig pretty hard into acid/base balance, vent management, invasive waveforms, balloon pumps, and most importantly flight physiology. You will get complex questions on all of those subjects. What you are doing is good, The Res-Q-Shop by Will Wingfield also offers an online review which is excellent. Good luck.

Wingfield’s book just wasn’t my style. That said, I haven’t tried his online course. Both @DesertMedic66, and @CANMAN offer accurate and solid advice.

I used Orchid’s stuff (both the in person course, and book) for my FP-C. I gave it a go for my CCP-C, but missed by two. I’ve been reviewing her materials since failing the CCP-C, but I think I may switch to Eric Bauer’s CCP-C prep tests and give it another go next year.

I personally really liked the ACE online course as a review prior to taking the CFRN. I did not have the book. However a lot of people did just fine passing with that as the only prep. Like others said focus on the critical care and flight aspects.

Vent does your company require both? If not are they paying for the CCP-C?

They don’t, but it’s more of personal at goal point. I had my FP-C before I even started working ground critical care so there was no reimbursement since I was still a field medic.
They reimburse for whatever specialty cert it is that you obtain in reference to your job title, but the FP-C is good for both air and ground.

We get our review course paid for so long as we go to the one that our company opted for (Back To Basics). They actually brought the course to our area early this month, which is what prompted me to give the CCP-C a stab.

Anyone done the review test from flight bridge ? hows that compare to the actual FP-C itself. Also probably a dumb question but I heard from someone else that a majority of the questions for the FP-C can be found from most books but with different numbers such as from ACE SAT or Back to Basics is this also true ?

I’m at work today, and I’m actually going over his F.A.S.T. self assessment book. I was a little disappointed that his CAMTS chapter was still more FP-C specific while also offering a separate flight physiology chapter. I feel as though the CAMTS chapter should be more generalized for the CCP-C crowd as well.

I haven’t signed up for the online prep exams as of yet, but that may be next on my to do list. As far as how it compares to the FP-C itself, I couldn’t tell you, I took it about three and a half years ago.

There may be slight similarities, but direct questions? No. None of these instructors do that, and in fact they pretty much make it a point to emphasize this as well. Orchid’s book and Eric’s book have some similarities as well, though he breaks down his chapters differently and goes a bit more in depth with respiratory, ventilator, and airway management.

Honestly, it seems like each of the ones I’ve gone over so far stick to what they do/ know best a bit more. Just keep doing what you’re doing, and don’t stress out too much; stressing out will definitely make it worse. When you’re about filled to the brim with information you’ll most likely be as ready as you’re going to be.

Again, the exams are hard (mostly to the inexperienced/ non-CCT folks), but not impossible. Good luck, and let us know how you did.

I think I’m pack to the brim with information lol I’ve read will book 4 times end to end and I’m going over his online course again.

Can’t help but worry since I have 18 months to get this with my new employment.

I certainly understand. Just out of curiosity, is your service FW, RW, or both?

Did you happen to go over the suggested study tips? Almost all of their books cover them, which is just basic common sense really. Also, how far out exactly is your exam?

I did what you’re doing, just with different materials. Honestly, I take today off if you aren’t already, maybe even the weekend then go over what you feel you’re least comfortable with first, and throw in the rest of it up until a day or two before the exam.

Right now I’m goimg over things that I know will be heavy on the test an things I’ve never had to deal with. Vents, acid base, hemodynamic monitoring, flight psy. Then I’m go over the other odds and ends along with reading the book again

If you feel like that is working for you, great. But generally speaking, that kind of study is known to be an inefficient way to study for exams.

If you have access to more “high yield” resources like good notes or a concise study guide, those may be worth reviewing. But overall the best way to study for an exam is doing lots and lots of practice questions, and then studying only the material that you do poorly on in the practice questions.

Im really good with memorization so going over the same questions over and over again in wills book isn't good for me, reason I bought into flight bridge ED practice test.
