General feel of the EMS job market

Once you get your EMT license, you can pretty much go for any certification you'd like. I'm a Basic, but I have certifications in EKG's and IV Therapy. Of course, as a Basic, it doesn't really help much, but it looks amazing on your resume, not to mention the look of surprise on a medic's face...

    Cal-Med Ambulance?

Hey guys and gals, a buddy of mine recently received his EMT-B cert and has been looking around for a job lately. As the ever decreasing market for Basics in SoCal continues to dissapoint, he's doing just about the only thing he can: spamming every single known company with applications...

General feel of the EMS job market

I guess it really depends on your certification level. You're much more likely to find a job as Intermediate than as Basic, seeing as how Basics are a dime a dozen around most parts. I'm not sure of the situation in Wisconsin, but jobs around my area are competitive, like really competitive...

Dumbest thing heard on the radio

Two weeks on the job, and this is what I get Dispatch: Rescue 117? Me: Rescue 117, go ahead. Dispatch: Report to xxxx herpderp st, for 52 y/o male with uncontrollable bowel movements. Me: ....Uncontrollable bowel movements? Dispatch: You know...uh he has diarrhea, and he can't control it...

EMT-B moving from California to Atlanta, GA

Yeah, here in L.A. county, all we have are Basics and Paramedics. Most people laugh at the idea of having an intermediate cert. simply because they see it as a watered down Paramedic, w/o the pay raise of course. Regardless of that, I do in fact hope that we'll get some now AEMT classes nearby...

THe REal Reason you became an EMT-B

Definitely just the sheer feeling of accomplishment you get after running a 911 call. Goodness, that feels so good. That, and the look on little kid's faces when they see you enter a room in full uniform, that's more than enough to make my day right there. Makes me feel like a true hero.

EMT-B moving from California to Atlanta, GA

Do you happen to have any info on AMR down there? I believe one of my friends mentioned a coworker who worked for AMR here in California, but then transferred to one of the Atlanta stations. He was an EMT-Basic.

EMT-B moving from California to Atlanta, GA

Hey guys, newbie on the site so yeah. I've been working with CARE ambulance in California for about a year now, but I've been planning to move Georgia for a while now. Thing is, I keep hearing that Georgia companies don't really hire emt basics to work as ambulance crews, and that they're...
