Results: Of 3,005 enrolled patients, 1,506 were assigned to initial LT and 1,499 to initial ETI. Patient characteristics were similar between treatment arms. Seventy-two hour survival was significantly higher for LT than ETI...
My personal thoughts on mechanical CPR is that its best utility is freeing hands for other tasks or for return to usual duty of personnel who would other wise be doing compressions. Its best use is NOT for improving survival.

No definitive answers as these are retrospectives analyses, but these articles raise questions that should have been answered before the movement toward "IO first" in cardiac arrest that many services have adopted.

Did anyone else hear a mic drop at the end of this masterpiece? After how many medical directors, one finally calls out the city, the dept, AND the union to their face and in public. So much gold.
I hope change happens, but I suspect this will go no where...

I'm most interested in the cities since the're likely to have a EMS and fire run by the same or at least 2 different organization/companies (i.e. FD and a private or other EMS-only service). If any of the counties have a county-wide FD or county-wide EMS, I'd like to know.
This is for a...

Jim Cline, Sr., 1937-2013
I did not know him personally, but I knew people that worked with him. With NJ having had so few paramedics, relatively speaking, everyone seems to know who the long timers are and their certification numbers. I've only ever heard great things about him.
Anyhow...
Anyone know what their set-up is? Apparently they use medic chase-cars. Is it BLS ambulances with ALS chase cars, or is it ALS ambulance, BLS ambulances, AND ALS chase cars? Are the chase cars single medic or dual medics? How about the ambulances?
I find myself thinking about this, particularly when driving around, because it seems to be such a controversy. I'm always curious how far I can travel in my personal vehicle, generally following traffic laws (yes, I tend to not follow the speed limit and I do roll-through at some stop signs)...
I'm interested in the start of paramedic services and Iam putting together a list of the first paramedic units to be established. Most people know the first cities to have paramedic programs, such as Miami, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Los Angeles County, Seattle, etc., but I'm curious about the...
So by 2015ish we should have some idea if an antiarrhythmic given during cardiac arrest actually works. Sweet.
