Hi, I'm from Nairobi Kenya, I have a Bachelors in Human Resource but I want to shift careers. EMS is not a big thing in Nairobi hence I want to move to a city that I will get the best training and job. I really love helping people and want to be an EMT so bad. Which city would you guys recommend for me to move and what should I look forward to? I'm a certified first aider with St. John ambulance Nairobi but I highly doubt that its recognized there. Thanks :)

Are you asking which city to move to in the USA??? Or what country do you desire?

Definitely would need to know more about your situation and support. Do you qualify for the visa? Have you started the application process yet for the visa? If you are trying for the student visa, then I assume you need a school and area first. So with that in mind, where do you have family or friend support? That would be my driving factor. For the entry level EMT, almost any college is good choice, so you need to decide where you can afford to live, where you will have support and go from there.

Does pursuing EMT qualify under the student visa? Not sure if it does. You definitely have big challenges in front of you! Good Luck!

Hi akflightmedic, thank you for your response. I'm leaning on Canada or the USA. And yes i'm asking which cities in both can I move to.
I've not yet started the process of getting the visa, to get a student visa I need to do the paramedic course I can't get one for EMT Basic.
I have a brother in Santa Ana, and i'll get support from my parents first till I can stand on my own.
I have friends in Texas, New york and Chicago.
Thank you for the well wishes :)

My advice then would be to complete the EMT course online from where you are. Then get tourist visa to do final exam, onsite testing. Then go back and start seeking a college paramedic course. Obviously college course will assist you with the student visa. When it is time for that part, I would choose a school near the family, plain and simple. For the most part, any college based degree program for paramedic is not a bad situation and any will suit your need. I know that may sound flippant, but in general it holds true. Having a Paramedic Degree from one college is no more impressive than holding the same degree from a different college. The impressive part would be that you have a degree in paramedicine from a college. Many of "us" skip the college part and go to rapid "be a medic in 6 months or less" type businesses.

As for the Canadian part...there are plenty of people on this forum who can answer that and there are a lot of threads about that.
