Hi there. I currently work for an IFT company as an EMT-B, as it's my first year in EMS and apparently this is how I'm supposed to get my foot in the door. Anyways, my questions pertains to transporting Trach patients as an EMT-B.
Sometimes, these transports can be up to 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours...
Today in my EMT class we were introduced to blind airway devices. (King and combitube?). We were shown how to deflate and lubricate and insert them, as well as to check to see if air is going into the stomach for combitube or of it's going into the lungs.
My question is, I'm kinda fuzzy with...
I'm understanding alot of what I'm learning in class, but one thing I don't understand is... say you're transporting and your patient codes. How do you decide where to take them/if you should pull over and wait for ALS to arrive for backup?
This has been A LOT of help. Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment and give me some insight into what I can expect! I definitely think this is a good starting point for me to ease myself into the field. I'm both excited and nervous! Honestly, my biggest worry is navigating around...
