There is an ability to incorporate real-time chat into the EMTLife discussion forum. Would anyone be interested in the option?

I would, but then I talk to much as it is... :rolleyes:
The problem is, it's really a group effort. A good handful of people would need to want to use it. I see a lot of websites that have them and are never used, but it's nice to have the option too. If I'm talking to someone in pm/email and they don't have the same msnger that I do, it's a good place to go.

I'd say yes because there always seems to be at least one person on the board. Heck, I'm on this frickin computer all day it seems anymore so I'm always available to chat. LOL

Set up an IRC server and run a java IRC thing off the site also allow user IRC clients to log in.
The local County Fire/EMS fourm has a chatroom, and they've started to do regular, pre-announced sessions on different hot topics. A neat idea.

I will purchase and install vBulletin once their version 3.5 is out. That should be in late June. No point in upgrading now, installing lots of hacks, then having to do it all over again.
