View Full Version : EMTLife.com February Contest!
EMTLife.com Member-Rewards Contest!
25$ Galls Gift Certificate Prize!
Over the past year EMTLife.com has grown to a vibrant community, but we still have a ways to go! In hopes of encouraging new member sign ups, and rewarding our members for their dedication and ongoing contributions to the site, we thought a contest was in order!
Contest Goals:
We're looking for prospective members to join the community, and our current members to continue to post and contribute to the forum.
Contest Dates:
Starts: February 1, 2005
Ends: February 28, 2005
Contest Rules:
This contest is one of "points", and the more points you have, the bigger chance you have of winning the prize!
- Members earn points for doing the following:
- 1 Point - For every post from the start of the contest date to the end
- 2 Points - For creating a new thread that receives at least 2 replies
- 5 Points - For every member you get to sign up to the forum
- That member must contribute at least 10 posts to count (We just dont want a whole bunch of non-active members).
- That member must enter your user-name in their profile when they sign up (it's on the sign up form), or email "info@emtlife.com" letting us know. They can also post in this forum to let us know.
At the end of the month we'll tally up all the points. I will then make a huge list with everyone's name on it. For example, if user1 has 3 points, user2 has 1, and user3 has six, the list would look like:
1 user1
2 user1
3 user1
4 user2
5 user3
6 user3
7 user3
8 user3
9 user3
10 user3
Then a program that will choose a random number 1 through whatever number we have, in this example 10. That person would win a $25 gift certificate to Galls (http://www.galls.com), to be used online or in their retail location!
The program will be run twice again, and those user will win their very own "@EMTLife.com" e-mail forwarder. You pick any name you want before the "@EMTLife.com", and we'll set it up so any email sent to that account will be forwarded to your existing email system.
Anyone caught signing up as multiple people (we can tell via IP address, email, and more), will be disqualified. If you share the same connection with another member of this forum, I'd email "moderators@emtlife.com" and let us know.
Also, please do not spam other boards, chat rooms, or web sites asking other members to join. While we're all about spreading the word, the last thing we need is for the site to have a bad reputation. We're all professionals here, so please be responsible. I'm not saying you can't spread the word on other forums and sites, but please be responsible.
Please allow 7-10 days for delivery of the Galls Gift Certificates, they will be mailed to you at the conclusion of the contest.
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to email us or just reply to this post.
Thanks, and good luck!
The Fine Print:
A member can be disqualified from the contest at any time for any reason at the sole discretion of the EMTLife.com Community Leader team. Spamming both our forum and others is not allowed. This contest is aimed to promote discussion, and spam doesn't do that. Gift certificates will be sent as soon as the contest ends. The winner has 30 days to contact us with their mailing address. EMTLife.com management can cancel this contest at any time. While we're confident this contest will go off without a hitch, and we've never had problems with contests in the past, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work out any kinks. Good Luck!

Yea...when does the drumroll start and the winners get announced? I am ready to go shopping
Here is my horrible excuse:
I tallied all the results and was going to wait until I got back to school to enter them into the spreadsheet and pick the winner. I got back to school a couple of days ago, set up the computer yesterday, and then realized I have a thesis due tomorrow (in a couple hours actually).
I pulled an all-nighter, have 547/1500 words done on my essay.
THE RESULTS WILL BE POSTED SOON, REALLY! I really am sorry about the delay, and realize I'm not being all the "community leader I can be", but I'll get it done!
Thanks for understanding :) :(

On what?
The Story of How Blue, the Nerd, Died.
I was a total nerd in high school. TOTAL. Not exactly Einstein; sort of like Jr. Einstein, mixed with that gravity theory guy (apple fell from a tree); Only a first aid kit fell and hit me on the head. My parents said I needed to get out more, I said why... I have a room with two computers and I just discovered this place where I can talk to other nerds from all over the world (Yahoo Chat). They didn't like this idea, said they were all serial killers. Um.. Okay. I could always go to the barn and rearrange my collection of first aid boxes on the wall. But the last time I did that, it required a tetnus shot. I read all the emt books, first aid texts, and medical crap I could find, I just had to wait two years to use it.
So I get done reading this huge 800 page book that I was writing a report on, just for the hell of it, it's the middle of JULY. I really got into the whole french revolution, battle of the nile and exiled french nobility thing. I was walking down main street with the nerd squad thinking of something to do. And something popped on. No, not a light bulb... The fire whistle blew, nearly scared the crap out of me. Here comes my father driving by with his red light on, told me to have fun... So after watching them put out a brush fire I knew what I could do. No, not become an arsonist... The nerd squad became the Nerdy junior fireman squad; two years later the nerd squad became the Nerdy EMT squad.. and so on. Now the nerds weren't useless. No more heads filled with useless information that was drilled into out brains b/c we'd "need to know it in the real world"... Nor did we spend countless summer days walking along the rail road tracks marking and measuring when the track gauging was a 16th of an inch off. Small town, there wasn't much to do. Becomming an EMT marked the end to nerd-ism. B/c the year I took the test, :o I failed Trig... :o
And that is how blue the nerd died.
There for. I could bribe you by writing the paper for you :P *kidding*.

Update:
I have no excuse, except that things aren't really going as planned. Right now I'm going to go to sleep, wake up at 2:30, and then go into work until 5 PM.
I know I've let many of you down with my total lack of respect for this contest, but I really do feel bad about it, and will have the results on Sunday. Its not that I don't care about EMTLife, but unfortunately I've had some pesonal issues arise that have taken up significant portions of my time. I don't have any excuses, and will "get 'er done."
I know I may have lost respect from quite a few of the members, and really do feel crappy about it. I'm trying my best right now to balance a lot of things, and right now, as you can see, it isn't always working out.
I'll be back on Sunday, with a great "Did that just happen story," and if nothing happened, I'll make an amazing one up. :D
Thanks for your understanding and support :)

I had a guy who tried to kill himself by holding his breath, f*tard... He held his breath for six hours, by means of keeping his mouth tightly closed, and breathing through his nose. Because he thought air went in one nostril, and out the other and not into his lungs. He said that he stopped and was talking to his neighbors cow, and she told him that he could do that. Then she asked him on a date. Then he called 911 because he thought evil little gnomes were in side of him controlling his internal computer. Ya know, he hears this beeping in the morning, he thought the government took out his brain and put in a computer. Not just any computer, an Apple, that's why he wasn't compatible with other people.

As long as there will continue to be crazy or dumb people, bad drivers and drug dealers; we will still have jobs. And currently, the region does not seem to be lacking either.
Tuesday has also. But thats okay, I'll have something to do other than log on.. Snow. They anticipate 12-14" of snow in the next 18 hours here on the mountain, at least the ski slope owners will be happy. B*****ds  I hate snow.

Then the power went out for 23 hours. Expected to be out from 8am Friday - Noonish Saturday also. The substation in town completely exploded, they found pieces a quarter mile away. They have no idea what happened, it wasn't the ice b/c it was under a pavillion. Which of course caught fire and collapsed. They have substations on flatbeds from the railroad. When it blew up, I guess it pulled the lines taut b/c the cross arm things broke in half and put all the wires down into the river, and up the streets till it met a high tension tower which, according to an engineer actually buckled. Funny thing was, nobody knew it had blown up. People figure the booms were the breakers on the poles getting thrown from ice. Went to power the grid back up, and the place was a smoldering ruin. I'm gonna shut down... the power is browning out don't wanna lose a second computer.

Went to power the grid back up, and the place was a smoldering ruin. I'm gonna shut down... the power is browning out don't wanna lose a second computer.
Oops.
But TTLWHKR has a back-up generator to power his whole neighborhood, so all is ok.
Sorry about the substation Didn't hurt anyone, did it?

Any business that had alot of stuff in freezers, but were too stupid to buy a generator after the week-long power outage two months ago.
I do have a generator, but since the outage was so unexpected, I only had enough gas for like 18 hours. The problem was, power was out in every town in a 40 mile radius. No power, no gas pumps; no gas, no generator. Luckily we had snow.

It is raining like cats and dogs here. Our resident mallard couple were out for a swim in my parking spot earlier today, here at work.
It is VERY nasty here.

Ice storm here... Power lines down, MVA's, fires... We were out non stop for nine hours.
