I'm a new EMT Basic, but I plan to attend Paramedic school.....I live in California, and the Paramedic schools here require 6 months to 1 year EMT Basic experience before you can apply for admission to Paramedic School. I still have 11 months to go....any suggestions on the classes that I can take at a community college to help with Paramedic School....I know that the classes are not transferable, but I atleast want to get a jump start and not feel left out/lost when I take my actual Paramedic classes.

A search will reveal several in depth discussions but definitely take A&P 1,2. There are several other classes that will make you a better Paramedic that are discussed on the other topics mentioned.

college level Gen Chem 1 &2, bio 1&2, microbio/biochem might all be useful courses, other than the A&P 1 and 2 w/ labs of course

Why are the credits non-transferable? Most of our community colleges let the credits transfer pretty freely. Look up an associates degree paramedic program and start taking all your gen eds and other electives.

In addition to what the others suggested, I would recommend Medical Terminology. It was a prereq for my Paramedic School and it was very useful. I was able to do an online class which was fun and easy.
