I was recently speaking with someone, who said there is a list of "The Big 7", in terms of Hx questions to ask for chronic conditions. This is what I have so far:

1. hypertention
2. seizures
3. diabetes
4. breathing problems (COPD, asthma, etc,)
5. heart problems

Can someone help me out with the final two?

thanks!

Alright then......I had never heard of 'The Big 7', so that was why I was asking.

I dunno either, but the first two that come to mind are psychiatric and infectious diseases. Both are likely to involve daily meds that it is extremely important for us to know about.

Assuming makes an a$$ out of you and me. Never assume any part of a history based on some "big seven most common whatever". You will recognize patterns for sure, but there is no magic formula of common diseases that you should ask for or limit yourself to asking.

Besides, a careful listener and knowledge of pharmacology will allow you to illicit the proper history of your patient without needing a cookbook formula of common diseases.
