But I seen this someplace, and I'm wondering what it is.

Ok I'm EMT-En = enhanced

as far as I know Virginia is the only state that has EMT-E

it's after B before I..

skills are
basic airway,orotracheal intubation adult, orotracheal intubation <8, laryngeal mask airway,peripheral IV,IM injection.sublingual administration,inhalation administration,oral med admin, automated external defib,blood glucose determination,pulse ox,end-tidal CO2 monitoring,MAST/PASG,spinal Immobilzation

meds are
pt. prescribed meds----epi-pen and epi pen jr, metered dose inhaler, nitro.
non prescribed meds----- albuterol MDI, albuterol nebulizer, asa, atrovent, benadryl IM or IV, dextrose, epinephrine 1:1,000, epi pen and epi pen jr, glucagon, narcan, nitro paste, nitro tablets, O2 100% mask, O2 adjusted dose, Thiamine

when we do our clinical this is what we need

48 hours total
ED 24 hours
other setting 24 hours
skills needed to complete
medication administration 15 different meds
oral intubation 1
IV access 10 one being 1 of the elderly and 1 pedi
ventilate non-intubated pt 5
pedi assessment 10
adult assessment 15
geriatric assessment 10
ob assessment 5
truma assessment 10
psychiatric assessment 5
chest pain assessment 10
resp/dyspnea assessment 10
abdominal complaints 10
alter mental status 10
calls on a EMS unit 10
team leader on EMS unit 5

as for why we do this in VA. I have no clue.... :)

Washington has a similar level but it is called EMT-ILS (Intermediate Life Support).

Don't have it here. We only have EMT-1 (Basic), EMT-2 (Intermediate) and Paramedic. In practice, we only have EMT-1 and Paramedic since only a few rural counties offer EMT-2, and I've been told its being phased out altogether soon.

Note: Technically, its EMT-I and EMT-II (Roman numerals), but I always use the Arabic numbers because EMT-I is Intermediate everywhere else in the country...California just has to be different. :rolleyes:
